| A number of years ago, Phil Lenahan
completed a personal study of how Sacred Scripture and
the Catechism of the Catholic Church addressed money issues.
While working through the study, Phil saw how clearly
the Church’s teaching dealt with money issues in
a common sense and practical way, and he wanted to pass
these teachings on to others.
Phil began to volunteer as a budget counselor at his parish
where he saw firsthand the strain that people were under
when it came to managing their money – especially
in the context of the family.
Various doors opened which allowed Phil to write for a
number of Catholic publications. Based on the feedback
received, it was clear there was a need for a program
that combined the principles contained in the Church’s
teaching with practical tools that help people better
manage their resources.
Phil had the opportunity to visit with the good folks
at Our Sunday Visitor, who concurred that such a ministry
was an important step in helping Catholics be better managers
of the resources they have.
That discussion has led to an exciting “partnering”
between Our Sunday Visitor, Phil, and Veritas Financial
Ministries. The 7 Steps to Becoming Financially Free program
is the first fruit of this effort. This includes Phil’s
new book by the same title, and a series of materials
for group study that will be rolled out in January, 2007.
A number of pilot groups are presently testing the materials
and the results are very encouraging!
Veritas will work in conjunction with Our Sunday Visitor
to develop local group leaders and to provide participants
with the tools they need to become a Steward of Providence.
